2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 200

The refreshed 2016 Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series has made its world debut today, revealed ahead of an Australian sales debut set for late October.

Weeks of leaked images and spy photos have left few surprises for the big SUV’s tweaked styling, although today’s images offer a far clearer view of the changes.

Other upgrades include new safety equipment and revisions to the V8 petrol and diesel engines – the latter change bringing more power and Euro 5 compliance for the twin-turbo diesel, and improved fuel consumption figures for both.

Improvements to the 4.5-litre twin-turbo V8 diesel include new injectors, revised mapping and a new diesel particulate filter protected against off-roading damage by a special guard.

Toyota claims a 5kW power boost from the changes, now up to 200kW, while torque remains unchanged at 650Nm.

Fuel consumption and emissions are likewise improved, the former slipping from 10L/100km to 9.5L/100km, and the latter now conforming to Euro 5 emissions requirements – although an exact number is still to be confirmed.

The 4.6-litre V8 petrol engine gets a revised air-injection system focused on reduced emissions and Euro 5 compliance, while power and torque remain unchanged at 227kW and 439Nm. Fuel consumption figures are claimed to have improved from the outgoing V8 petrol engine’s 13.6L/100km, although a new number is still to be confirmed.
